Why us?
Local really does mean local.
We work tirelessly to bring you the best local food from farmers and producers across Kent and do our upmost to encourage everyone to enjoy seasonal food. After all, not many food companies have the ability to harvest asparagus and have it in our customers kitchens within four hours, or collect morning eggs from our farm chickens and deliver them before breakfast on Sunday. It's these little things that we do best.
Feel free to call us if you want to know where your leg of lamb comes from ,or who hand picks your braeburn Kent apples. We can easily find out the answers because all our produce is traceable, plus we love a good chat with our customers.
We have to be honest though. We would love it to be warm and sunny all year round in the UK, but unfortunately that just isn't the case. The cooler weather makes it impossible to grow everything we want all the time so we occasionally use European producers to help keep the boxes brimming with delicious fruit & veg.
Restaurant quality food at your kitchen table.
We started out delivering the best quality food to restaurants and it soon made sense to drop off a bit of produce to friends and family on the daily 'rounds'. We still use this policy today. Our deliveries are managed efficiently so that homes, restaurants, schools and nurseries can all enjoy the benefits of eating locally sourced food. A typical day may involve dropping a delivery in at Sarah's house in Hackney before heading around the corner to the local Big Foot Nursery in Angel. The last deliver of the day could well be The Intercontinental on Park Lane. It's exactly the same great tasting local food, and because we are combining all the deliveries we are able to keep our vans full, our delivery charges low and our green credentials high.
Supermarket prices to the customer, but not to the producer.
We don't mind admitting that you may occasionally be able to get some of your fruit and veg cheaper at a supermarket. But then again, we also don't mind admitting that we will always give our producers a fairer price for their produce, our fruit and veg is picked for taste and not 'beauty' and all our meat and fish comes from sustainable sources.
However, we want want our customers to get a good deal and not be left out of pocket. The producers we deal, with don't expect to be paid a huge premium; they just want a fair deal. We can strike the perfect balance.
We have recently introduced our 'Price Match' so that you can be sure you are getting a great deal yet still supporting our local producers and enjoying their fantastic local and seasonal food.
One thing is for certain though; we will never be beaten on quality.
Zero packaging & waste? We're close.
Everyone has a dream of zero packaging and we are no different. We are continually looking at ways in which we can further reduce our packaging without compromising on the quality of our food. For example, we have recently replaced our cool boxes with cool bags which use 90% less packaging and still keep the food cold. These, like our cardboard boxes, can be returned, reused or recycled.
Waste is a lot easier to deal with. If the food is just a little bruised then our very lovely Farm House Kitchen cook will turn it into something amazing such as '
rich tomato and red pepper soup' or a '
mixed vegetable pasty' for us all to enjoy in the office and now available for you to buy at home. If it is simply beyond help then it will go into Percy, our farmyard pigs, evening supper.
We are determined to be as green as humanly possible and are making every effort to do so. In the meantime, we will continue to do what we are good at; deliver great quality local and seasonal food to all our happy customers.
